'Laying Down Our Weapons' by Reflect Church: Trusting God in Turbulent Times

Reflect Church's song, 'Laying Down Our Weapons,' came from a very rough patch three years ago. Sats Solanki writes: 'There was a lot of injustice and everything in me wanted to fight back and assert my space. I felt like the Holy Spirit gave me a word to lay down my weapons and trust him with it all.' Sats continues: 'Fast forward to today and I know that the fruit of that decision has blessed my family so much.'

Reflect Church - Laying Down Our WeaponsThe lyrics of 'Laying Down Our Weapons' encourages us to stop our battles and fill ourselves with praise. Just listen to the first verse: 'When darkness falls and light cannot be seen, still I'll wait for you to be revealed.' You can try to fight the darkness, but better yet, switch your focus and be aware that God's love is ever-present. Look for the moment that He will reveal Himself, because He is there by your side, no matter how dark life may seem.

It's essentially a change in your mindset that leads you to the same declaration in the chorus: 'We're laying down our weapons and picking up our praise.' Making a conscience choice to shift your response from fight to praise, and from doubt to trusting that 'our victory is certain'.

Reflect Church emphasizes that God is the stable factor in every equation. True peace can be found by seeking Him.

Interesting detail… The release date of this song coincided with unrest, riots and violence across the UK. Reflect Church obviously couldn't have planned this, but it does feel prophetic in many ways, and encourages us to be peacemakers.

Give 'Laying Down Our Weapons' a listen. Let it minister to your heart and encourage you to spread His peace to the world around you.

"When I Saw The Light" by Tyler Philip Ratcliffe: Folk, Grace, and the Moment Everything Changes

“When I Saw The Light” captures something painfully familiar — the trap that routine can bring. Tyler Philip Ratcliffe wrote this folk anthem as a follow-up to “This Little Light of Mine,” drawing on his bluegrass roots and the spirit of Bill Monroe’s classic to tell a story many will recognize in themselves. The verses don’t sugarcoat it. “Same faces, same mistakes, same places // Promise that I change it all tomorrow”  — the trap we need to be aware of… The routine masquerading as life. But Ratcliffe doesn’t leave the listener there. The chorus lifts everything: “I traded fake for something honest // Finally doing something right.” That’s the turning point! What makes this song land is its honesty about the moment before a breakthrough. When numbness sets in, when you’ve exhausted every other option — that’s when the light (His light) breaks through. Ratcliffe captures the surprise of grace: “I wasn’t looking for religion // Wasn’t searching for the truth.” Nobody ever is. And ye...
